Cub Scout Space Derby

Quinton and his Rocket "Bumble Bee"

The cub scouts held a Space Derby this past week.  Here's Bear Scout Quinton with his rocket before the big event.  Now, Quinton's Mom forgot to remind Quinton's Dad that the derby was this week until Sunday.  OOOps!  So, although they had started the project, Sunday and Monday were big days of pushing to finish. The pack had never held this derby before so no one had much experience with it.  However, Jon did great in preparing Q's rocket.  Thanks to Jon's seven listeners, they all called in with very helpful tips when asked to help out.  The Arrow Rocks!  Jon had it down so well he even ended up helping another mom at the event put hers together.  He was the only dad with a drill, so the kids were standing in line waiting for Jon to help them.
Jon winds up the elastics in Quinton's rocket.
The rocket then is mounted on the launch pad or wire.
Vroooom!  Boy did they fly!
On the last run, Quinton's rocket crashed into the other end of the upright brackets it flew so fast.  Luckily it did not break!
Third Place!
...we think.  The event wasn't really organized and the final placement wasn't clear, but we think third was our final positioning. AND, Quinton had a blast and thanked his dad warmly on the ride home!  It just makes a mom's heart melt!
Great work Jon and Quinton!!!!
